Hello,
Thanks to EBI and UNIGE technical support teams and to Tuuli now we can
use much faster file transfer protocol called Aspera.
Aspera is a commercial file transfer protocol that provides better
transfer speeds than ftp over long distances.
Aspera ascp command line client can be downloaded from here:
http://www.asperasoft.com/download_connect/.
For instance, if you have Unix/Linux:
- you will get aspera-connect-2.4.7.37118-linux-32.sh
- run "sh aspera-connect-2.4.7.37118-linux-32.sh" in your terminal
- command line client for Aspera will be installed here:
"~/.aspera/connect/bin/ascp"; you can add "/.aspera/connect/bin/" to
your PATH environment variable if you would like to run just "aspr" in
command line
- to transfer from local SOURCE to TARGET at EBI at a rate of 100M do:
~/.aspera/connect/bin/ascp -QT -l 100M SOURCE geuvadis@ah01.ebi.ac.uk:TARGET
For instance: ~/.aspera/connect/bin/ascp -QT -l 100M
/my_local_dir/chr*_ALL.impute2.vcf.gz
geuvadis@ah01.ebi.ac.uk:/upload/geuvadis/wp4_rnaseq/main_project/external_data/genetic_variation/genotype/imputation_results/
- you will be asked for password - it is same as for ftp site.
- to transfer from EBI SOURCE to local TARGET at 150M do:
~/.aspera/connect/bin/ascp -QT -l 150M geuvadis@ah01.ebi.ac.uk:SOURCE
TARGET
Please let me know if you have any problems/questions concerning Aspera
usage.
Regards,
Natalja
